About

The Gretsch Company is an American musical instrument manufacturer headquartered in Savannah, Georgia, USA. Founded in 1883 by Friedrich Gretsch, a German immigrant, in Brooklyn, New York, the company is one of the oldest instrument brands in the United States. Gretsch is best known for its hollow-body and semi-hollow electric guitars -- the White Falcon, Country Gentleman, Duo Jet, Tennessee Rose, and Electromatic series -- favored by rockabilly, country, jazz, and rock musicians including Chet Atkins, Brian Setzer, and Neil Young. Since 2002, Gretsch Guitars has been distributed and manufactured under a licensing agreement with Fender Musical Instruments Corporation (FMIC), which builds the Professional Collection models in Japan and the Electromatic series in South Korea. Gretsch Drums, operated separately, produces snare drums, drum kits, and cajon percussion under the Broadkaster, USA Custom, Brooklyn, and Catalina series. Drum manufacturing is contracted in the United States (Broadkaster, USA Custom), Taiwan (Brooklyn), and China (Catalina). Wholesale distribution covers the full guitar and drum catalogue through regional distributors in over 40 countries.
