Rutongo Mines is Rwanda's largest tin (cassiterite) mining and processing operation, extracting and concentrating tin ore at the Rutongo site north of Kigali. The operation is managed under the Rwanda Mines, Petroleum & Gas Board and supplies refined tin concentrate to smelters in Europe and Asia. Rutongo's production contributes to Rwanda's mineral export earnings and is subject to international conflict-minerals due-diligence certification under OECD guidelines.
