Seedworks International

Hyderabad-based hybrid rice and corn seed pioneer, one of the first Indian firms to commercialise hybrid rice technology, distributing seed through agri-dealer networks in South and Southeast Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Seedworks International is an Indian private seed company headquartered in Hyderabad, Telangana, founded in 1987. The company is particularly recognised for its role in pioneering the commercial development and marketing of hybrid rice seed technology in India, making it one of the first private Indian companies to successfully commercialise three-line hybrid rice systems. The Seedworks product portfolio spans hybrid rice varieties for both transplanted and direct-seeded cultivation, hybrid corn varieties for grain and silage, pearl millet, sorghum, and vegetable seeds including tomato, okra, brinjal and chilli. Research stations in Hyderabad, Maharashtra and Karnataka support multi-location variety testing across diverse soil types and water regimes. Seed distribution within India runs through a national agri-dealer network supported by company agronomists. International export programmes supply Bangladesh, the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand and Myanmar with hybrid rice and corn varieties adapted to tropical lowland conditions. Sub-Saharan Africa distribution of corn and vegetable seed is conducted through regional distributors in Kenya, Tanzania and Nigeria. Seedworks maintains focused R&D investment targeting yield, disease resistance and early maturation traits relevant to smallholder rice and corn producers.
