Anglo American's South African operations encompass the Kumba Iron Ore subsidiary mining the Sishen and Kolomela deposits in the Northern Cape, among the highest-grade iron-ore mines globally, as well as copper interests at El Soldado and the Thungela thermal-coal spin-off. Kumba Iron Ore produces approximately 40 million tonnes of lump and fine iron ore per year, exported via Saldanha Bay port to steelmakers in China, Japan, and Europe. Kumba is the sixth-largest iron-ore producer globally and the largest seaborne exporter of high-grade iron ore from Africa.
